Marlies Edge ‘Dogs on Dog Day
Toronto Erases Two-Goal Deficit for Shootout Win
(TORONTO) – The Marlies downed the Hamilton Bulldogs, 3-2 in a shootout on Dog Day at Ricoh Coliseum on Saturday afternoon in front of 5,782 fans and 60 dogs.
Chad Anderson and Hunter Bishop both scored first period goals to put the Bulldogs in front 2-0 in the first period.
James Reimer, making his sixth straight appearance got the start for the Marlies and made 16 saves in the win.
Neither team scored in the second period, although Toronto outshot their opponent 13-3.
Earlier in the third stanza, Richard Greenop redirected a shot from the point to put Toronto on the board. Greenop’s second of the season was assisted by Phil Oreskovic and Ryan Stokes.
With just over a minute remaining in regulation time, Alex Foster fired a wrist shot that beat Bulldogs’ starting goalie Robert Mayer through the five-hole. Philippe Paradis recorded his first career AHL point with a helped on Foster’s ninth of the year.
For the second time in as many nights, the Marlies erased a two-goal, third period deficit.
However, unlike Friday night in Rochester, the Marlies were able to beat their opponent in the shootout. Reimer stopped all five shooters and Paradis’ fifth round goal won it for the home squad.
Ryan Hamilton had his six-game point streak snapped in the win; while Brennan Evans extended his assist streak to three games.
Toronto ends their 2009-10 regular season tomorrow afternoon at 4:00 p.m. at Ricoh Coliseum. The game will be the Marlies ‘Fan Appreciate Day’.
