Marlies Recall Doig, Tsimikalis and Wellar from Columbia

Mike Penny, General Manager of the Toronto Marlies, announced today that the club has recalled forwards Tyler Doig and Peter Tsimikalis and defenceman Patrick Wellar from the Columbia Inferno of the ECHL.

Doig, 22, posted seven points (three goals, four assists) with the Inferno in the 2008 ECHL playoffs. In 38 games in the regular season with Columbia, Doig registered 29 points (seven goals, 22 assists) and 37 penalty minutes. In 24 games this season with the Marlies, he tallied eight points (four goals, four assists) and a plus-10 rating.

Tsimikalis, 22, notched eight points (four goals, four assists) in 13 games in the 2008 ECHL playoffs.

The 6-1, 195 pound forward registered eight points (two goals, six assists) and four penalty minutes in 29 games with the Marlies. Tsimikalis appeared in 40 games with Columbia this season, notching 27 points (nine goals, 18 assists) and 18 penalty minutes.

Wellar, a 6-3, 210-pound defenceman tallied four assists and led the Inferno with 40 penalty minutes in 13 games in the 2008 ECHL playoffs. He appeared in 18 games with the Marlies this season, recording three points (one goal, two assists) and 13 penalty minutes. In 52 games with the Inferno this season, Wellar has tallied 28 points (eight goals, 20 assists) and 77 penalty minutes.

The Marlies play Game 3 of their best-of-seven series tonight against the Crunch at the Oncenter in Syracuse with puck-drop scheduled for 7:00 p.m. The game can be seen live on Leafs TV.  Fans can follow the Marlies on AM 640 for their run to the Calder Cup Finals.
